The Travelling Pentaxian: Cagayan de Oro City

We took the 4am flight to Cagayan de Oro. So it meant I didn’t sleep the night before. We had a 1am call time at the Network Center, we left by 2am and went straight to the airport.

We checked in, liesurely ate breakfast and went on to the boarding platform. Our names were being called out on the PA system. We were late! We were enjoying breakfast too much and hadn’t noticed the time. With a mad dash to the boarding gate, we made it. The other passengers gave us stern looks. hehehe.

We landed 530am in CDO, it was a very cold day! Almost like Christmas!

It was my second time in CDO. Both times, I was with a TV crew.

We had a great time spelunking/ caving (no pictures, sorry). We shot the rapids on board tubes (interiors of old tires). I almost drowned! Our tube flipped, I was out of breathe, when I tried to surface, the tubes were on top of me! IĀ  struggled to get the tubes out of my way. Luckily, I managed to pop my head above the water with only a few mouthfulls of Cagayan Riverwater swallowed.

shot with a Pentax W20 (try to hold your breath when we go under!)

It was a very interesting trip. We met the 7 tribes of Malasag Eco Tourism Gardens. These people are direct descendants of the ancient tribes of Mindanao. We were treated to some dancing, handicraft making and food!

I make it a point when possible to go to the local church+plaza of everywhere I go because this is the place where you usually see photographers. I try to chat with them if they are friendly and the language barrier is not that much of an issue. in CDO, I was even lucky to find some old timers still using Pentax cams and lenses. I also ask them if they have extra lenses they would like to let go of. šŸ™‚ LBA Nationwide!

We also went to other places in CDO but I wasnt able to shoot some photos as I was busy with work. šŸ™‚

I’ll be Back CDO!
